Dr. Melissa Nicol was born and raised in Northwest Ohio where she began her veterinary career. She settled into Marysville, Ohio, in June of 2019 with her husband Andrew. Dr. Nicol committed to the farm life as Andrew is a 6th generation farmer! Together, they own a small Brown Swiss dairy herd. They look forward to beginning family life at their wonderful farm abode along with their furry family Remi & Penny (playful golden retrievers) and two kitties Effie & Archie.
After earning her undergraduate degree in Biology and Animal Science at the University of Findlay in 2014, Dr. Nicol went on to achieve her DVM at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Her career aspirations stem from early on in life where she was an avid member of 4-H showing rabbits, goats and sheep. After 10 years of being immersed in the animal care culture, she was determined to take her passion a step further and commit to taking care of all creatures great and small.
When she is not working hard on the farm or at the office, Dr. Nicol loves to be outdoors. She enjoys long distance cycling and running, training with their dogs and working in the vegetable garden. Nature is truly therapy for her soul!
Dr. Nicol learned of the ins and outs of AHSH through her friend and AHSH RVT, Ashley. She was looking to advance her career by joining an AAHA accredited hospital with the extra bonus of a job that is closer to home. Low stress handling and providing a happy experience for her patients is Dr. Nicol’s priority at AHSH. Her special talents lie in ultrasonography and she hopes to expand her skill set by learning echocardiography. In addition to her skill set in ultrasonography, Dr. Nicol has special interests in ophthalmology and surgery. She enjoys teaching and welcomes any student who desires to learn the ins and out of becoming a Veterinarian!
Dr. Nicol looks forward to serving the local community in a small-town atmosphere at AHSH, delving into her passion of teaching by educating pet parents on how to best take care of their pets where she will ultimately strengthen the human-animal bond for all pet parents and their furry families!
