Examples of an emergency may include:
- Bleeding that does not stop
- Bloated, distended, swollen or painful abdomen
- Dilated pupils
- Difficulty breathing
- Falls, hit-by-cars, large wounds, broken bones
- Inability to deliver puppies or kittens
- Inability to urinate or defecate
- Inflammation, swelling or other irritation to the eye
- Ingestion of dangerous foods, poison, plants, bones or other materials
- Loss of balance or consciousness
- Pain
- Penetrating wounds (especially in the chest or abdomen)
- Seizures
- Severe hives or itching
- Staggering, stumbling, head-tilted, sudden blindness
- Sudden, severe lameness
- Vomiting or diarrhea with blood
