Examples of an emergency may include:


  • Bleeding that does not stop
  • Bloated, distended, swollen or painful abdomen
  • Dilated pupils
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Falls, hit-by-cars, large wounds, broken bones
  • Inability to deliver puppies or kittens
  • Inability to urinate or defecate
  • Inflammation, swelling or other irritation to the eye
  • Ingestion of dangerous foods, poison, plants, bones or other materials
  • Loss of balance or consciousness
  • Pain
  • Penetrating wounds (especially in the chest or abdomen)
  • Seizures
  • Severe hives or itching
  • Staggering, stumbling, head-tilted, sudden blindness
  • Sudden, severe lameness
  • Vomiting or diarrhea with blood
