International Health Certificates for Pet Travel
Planning international travel or a permanent move with your pet? You’re in experienced hands.
Travel with pets is complex, highly regulated, and unforgiving when details are missed. Every country has its own import rules — many of which must be completed months in advance, in a specific order, and within strict time windows. A single error can result in delayed travel, denied entry, or mandatory quarantine.
At Animal Hospital of Shawnee Hills, all health certificate services are personally managed by our Compliance Officer, Molly, who oversees every step of the process from initial planning through USDA endorsement.
There is no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to traveling with your pets, as all countries have different requirements for the import of live animals. Depending on your destination, requirements may include:
- Microchipping prior to any required vaccinations
- Rabies and other vaccines administered at specific intervals
- Blood tests to verify rabies immunity or parasite status
- Preventive parasite treatments given within strict time windows
- A final pre-travel examination, often within 10 days of departure
- Submission of documents to the USDA for official endorsement

“Thanks to Molly I got my pets International travel certificate approved the same day to visit family abroad! We were desperate for help and she was able to squeeze us in. Thanks to all the team Ivey my dog was able to meet her grandparents in Argentina ☺️🤣😇”
“We were trying to travel overseas with our new puppy.
The information on the internet was confusing and many vet practices are unfamiliar with the process. We were very thankful to find this practice and especially Molly who works there. She was extremely knowledgeable on the process, got us in on short notice and managed the process with expertise. We highly recommend them, especially if you need the health certificate for international travel with your pet.”
“We live in the Pittsburgh area and were looking for a USDA Health Certification for our pet to be able to travel with us internationally. We called several places in our area with no luck or interest in a vet being able to help us with the filing to the USDA. We found the Animal Hospital of Shawnee Hills (Columbus, Ohio) online and called and Molly, their Compliance Officer & Scheduling Coordinator for pet international travel, detailed exactly what needed to be done and when. She was so incredibly helpful in the preparation and filing that we would not have been able to do it without her and her enthusiasm for helping people and their pets. We drove to Columbus for a vet checkup and their staff and vets were fantastic.
If you need a USDA Heath Certificate for your pet’s International travel, this place is the place to call. I give my most enthusiastic recommendation!”
“My husband and I highly recommend the Animal Hospital Of Shawnee Hills and their travel services. We had been using Animal Hospital Of Shawnee Hills for years. We always had excellent care and service. When we decided to move to the Cayman Islands and bring our dog, we quickly found out that the requirements for bringing a dog are extremely strict and complicated. Molly, at Animal Hospital Of Shawnee Hills, helped us tremendously! It was about a three month process. She completed paperwork, coordinated the rabies shot, rabies titre testing, and other health requirements, and made sure our Certificate of Health was ready when needed right before the travel date. She kept us updated as the process progressed and responded to emails and phone calls promptly. Molly helped streamline things, made the process less stressful, and gave us confidence it was all going to work out. We are grateful to Molly and Animal Hospital Of Shawnee Hills!”
