Canine Rehabilitation

Helping your dog get back to tail wags, zoomies, and couch snuggles

When your dog is recovering from surgery, injury, or a chronic condition, it’s not just their body that needs healing—it’s their spirit, too. At the Animal Hospital of Shawnee Hills, our Canine Rehabilitation services are designed to help your pup regain strength, mobility, and confidence in a safe, supportive, and fun environment.

Our rehab program is led by Dr. Jake Gerard, a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) with a passion for helping dogs live their best, most mobile lives. Whether your pup is recovering from orthopedic surgery, a senior who needs a little extra help getting around, or somewhere in between, Dr. Jake tailors every plan to your dog’s specific needs (and personality!).

What Can Canine Rehab Help With?

Think of it as physical therapy, but with more fur and tail wags. Canine rehab can help dogs with:

  • Orthopedic surgery recovery (like TPLO or fracture repairs)
  • Neurological conditions
  • Soft tissue injuries (sprains & strains)
  • Arthritis and age-related mobility changes
  • Weight management

What to Expect at Your Dog’s First Rehab Visit

Rehab starts with a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Jake. During this visit, he will:

  • Perform a full nose-to-tail physical exam
  • Recommend diagnostics if needed (like X-rays or lab work)
  • Develop a personalized rehab exercise plan for your dog

Most dogs start with our 6-treatment package, which includes laser therapy at each visit to help reduce pain, speed healing, and improve comfort.

All rehab treatments take place in our newly re-vamped lower level—a peaceful, private environment free from distractions, perfect for keeping your dog focused on their exercises and relaxed during therapy.

Let’s get your pup moving again!
